2nd Annual Pawpaw Festival at Hunters Ridge Winery

It's almost time for Hunters Ridge Winery's second annual Pawpaw Festival! Once again we will have food, wine and vendors! We are working on our vendor list and will have more details to post soon!

Pawpaw fruit is native to Indiana and unusual because it looks and grows like a native woodland fruit but has a distinctly tropical taste. The ripe flesh is creamy and sweet and can be eaten fresh or used in ice cream, baked goods, smoothies, puddings and other desserts. The fruit ripens in Indiana primarily in late August through September, although timing varies with location and weather.

Important to Indiana's Ecosystem

Pawpaw isn't just a fruit tree. It is part of Indiana's native ecosystem and serves as the primary host plant for the zebra swallowtail butterfly. Planting pawpaws can therefore provide habitat for native wildlife while adding an edible crop to a landscape.
