The firm of Platt, Martin & Gordon was established in the year of 1803 in Salem. It was an establishment that increased in magnitude rapidly, employing many workmen. From the start they put out finished wagons, buggies and carriages of the latest improved patters. using up-to-date, modern machinery. They also supplied foreign orders for wagon hubs, fellows, shafts, spokes etc. thereby putting money in circulation from the sale of articles of home production. Cave River Valley became part of Spring Mill State Park in 2009 through an agreement with The Nature Conservancy. The park includes a 3.3-mile loop trail and is generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 1 h 22 min to complete. This trail is great for birding and hiking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are March through October.

Crown Hill Cemetery is the largest cemetery in Washington County. Crown Hill was established in 1824. Crown Hill Cemetery is located on the southwest edge of the City of Salem. Like all cemeteries, Crown Hill's many monuments and markers reflect the history of this historic community. As an historical aside, many of the stone markers in the original section reflect lives that were lost during the Cholera epidemic of 1833. Delaney Park is a 326 acre park with an 88 acre lake with unlimited recreational opportunities including swimming, fishing, boat rentals, nature hikes, basketball, volleyball, horseshoe pits, playground, modern and primitive camping, cabin and lodge rentals, shelter house rentals and the new Delaney Park Restaurant. Access to the Knobstone Trail is available from the Delaney Creek Park Trailhead located in the rear parking area of the park.
Delaney Creek Park includes an 88 acre lake within 326 acres of country wilderness. The park includes lodges, cabins, primitive cabins and 35 camping sites. All camping and cabin rentals are a two night minimum on weekends from April 15-November 1. Holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day) require a 3 night minimum. If you like camping you have your choice of camper/RV camping in the Modern area or tent camping in the Primitive area. Modern camping includes water and electric hook ups.
